"Good teaching is more a giving of right questions than a giving of right answers."
- Josef Albers
I am an artist and recent graduate of Illinois State University, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Bachelor's degree in Art Education. I have been teaching classes for the last two years at an art studio, in Bloomington, to students of all ages and in a variety of media. I am looking forward to continuing my education while encouraging growth in my students.

My Educational Philosophy
My role in the classroom should be to help students become better learners. I believe in art’s ability to inspire a student's interest not only in visual art, but its many intersections with other disciplines. Art is deeply intertwined with literature, history, science, math, and other subjects. I design my lessons to reflect these connections and encourage students to use what they learn in other classes and their personal passions in the art room.
The art classroom is an excellent setting for open-ended assignments that require thinking independently and creatively. Art projects can help students learn to be selective in their thought process, going with the best solution out of many, not the first idea that comes to mind. I am also there to be an example. I take art seriously, and students should have instructors that are passionate about the subject they teach. I am actively engaged with the art world, and can help students build a portfolio, submit artwork to exhibitions, and push them to become better and more well rounded artists. |
